"Painting by Titta Fasciotti"

TITTA FASCIOTTI for many years one of the country’s most prominent artists,
he was renowned for his landscapes, seascapes and figure studies of Xhosa women.
Exceptionally versatile, he was equally at home working in oils,
acrylics, ink wash, water-colour, pencil and charcoal.

Titta Fasciotti was born in Bergamo Italy in 1927 and under difficult circumstances came to reside in South Africa in 1948. His family were all artists
and from an early age he was constantly surrounded by art in all its forms. His father was an Italian prisoner of war held here in South Africa
and his works have also been exhibited.

Titta is among the very top artists ever in South Africa, and in my opinion, in the world.

Fasciotti studied formally at the Accademia di Belle Arti under Professor A Funi and informally under W G Wiles in Knysna, South Africa.
The Riverbend Art Gallery which, in the 1980’s, was a home for many of his works.
It is situated at Riverbend Crocodile Farm at Southbroom on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Sadly Titta was murdered by a person wielding a machete, what we South Africans call a panga.
